Hello everyone and welcome to our page!
I wanted to write a little introduction about us and our family! And how we got into breeding. My name is Kathryn (Kate) and I have been breeding mostly shih-poos since 2009. I am married now to my wonderful husband Emmett, and we have two young boys Elliott & Ian and a new young daughter Everly, who keep us VERY busy! My husband had never owned a dog before he met me, and he came into our relationship with me having 4 dogs, and getting ready to purchase a 5th dog. And since then we have had 5 more dogs! I started breeding in 2009, at just 18 years old. It was decision I (and my mom at the time) made based on our love for our own dogs. We wanted to give people what we had, which was great companion and family animals. We spent a lot of time, energy and resources making sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into. It has been a roller coaster of puppy love since then! We have had some AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL puppies since then.
We first became interested and ultimately fell in love with Shih-Poos in 2007. Earlier in that year my grandmother, Ruby, passed away from a battle with ovarian cancer. At the very same time my parents were separating, and in the interim of that we had to give up the two dogs we had at the time. We didn’t have a place to go, our house was being foreclosed on, and the power turned off. Eventually it was decided between my mom and her two sisters that we could live in my grandmothers house, until my sister and I were both out of school (including college). But by that time, our two dogs were already in new homes. So a few months passed, and everything settled down, and I was lonely. I really wanted a companion, and a friend, and I started looking around for puppies. I was looking for something that I wouldn’t be allergic too. I found a breeder in Vermont, who had a few litters of puppies ready to go to their new homes. I was clicking through the pages, and saw that one of the mother dogs was named Ruby. When I clicked it open, the first thing I saw was their birthday, May 27th, that was my grandmothers birthday also. I showed it to my mom, and she called and we brought Levi home soon after. We fell in love. He was the most wonderful dog and companion. The next year we brought home Delilah. A pure bred Shih Tzu. We had a lot of friends and family who also loved out dogs, and wanted a puppy, if we ever decided to have a litter. We eventually decided to have 1 litter, and see how it went, we did a ton of research talked to the vets, watched youtube videos, everything we could to prepare ourselves. After that first litter was born, I fell in love with having puppies, being able to give people that missing part of their family, and seeing how happy their new families were. It was wonderful.
Our puppies are raised in our home, around our children now, and other people, they are exposed to the sounds of everyday life. Our dogs our are pets first and foremost, and I typically won’t rehome any of our adults, unless it’s in their best interest. My mom currently has two of our retired dogs, and my best friend has another. I usually also require the adults to stay local, so that if we needed to retrieve them and it didn’t work out, they would be close to home.
If you have any other questions about us, or our dogs, please feel free to ask!
Thank you!
